From July 18–25, KPTT welcomed three enthusiastic students for a pig farming course. Two of them came from Larantuka, Flores, while one was from East Kalimantan. They learned the theory and practice of organic pig farming, aimed at producing premium pork. This course not only expanded their knowledge, but also provided highly valuable hands-on experience.
Over seven consecutive days, they learned a wealth of knowledge, starting with proper feed composition for pigs. They learned to identify nutrient-rich ingredients that support healthy swine growth. Furthermore, they studied effective breeding techniques to produce superior, high-quality offspring. Piglet care was also included in the curriculum, aimed at ensuring piglets receive proper attention, care, and optimal nutrition from an early stage.
Equally important, they delved into efficient fattening processes to achieve ideal body weight while ensuring good meat quality. Barn sanitation was taught as a crucial aspect to maintain swine health and prevent disease. Armed with the knowledge gained, the students are expected to apply these organic pig farming techniques in their respective regions, thereby enhancing local pork production quality and improving farmers’ livelihoods.
