On the bright morning of Sunday, June 8, 2025, fifty children from PIA St. Paul Miki Parish Salatiga gathered joyfully on the porch of KPTT Salatiga.
At exactly 09:00 AM, they were divided into small groups guided by KPTT mentors: Brother Dieng, Willy, Adven, and Rafli, as well as Lucky, a trainee student, along with Mikael and Vena as volunteers. They were ready to embark on an exciting agricultural learning adventure. The first activity began with overplanting! Working directly with their hands, they learned how to repot lettuce seedlings into new polybags while feeling the texture of the soil, fertilizer, and sand mixture. They also made sure to water the newly repotted plants so the lettuce could grow more vigorously.
After successfully planting, at 10:00 AM their adventure continued around Area 1 of KPTT Salatiga. This area houses KPTT Salatiga’s educational facilities, including various gardens, crops, cultivation plots, and livestock. Nearby, the mini greenhouse displayed rows of seedlings of various agricultural plant species—all planted in small pots. Next, at the mushroom house, stacks of white oyster mushroom bags piled high were growing on their substrate media. The children listened attentively to explanations from the KPTT Salatiga mentors. Close by, they met new friends: cattle and goats that are accustomed to human interaction. Carrying buckets of fresh leaves, the children took turns feeding the animals.
They also got to meet piglets. A few brave children even dared to hold and cuddle the piglets.
After exploring Area 1 to their heart’s content, the children took a group photo in front of the KPTT Salatiga sign as a keepsake. At 11:00 AM, the group crossed over to Area 2. As 12:00 PM approached, rumbling tummies were finally satisfied with a delicious meal: a bowl of savory clear soto accompanied by quail egg skewers! To top it off, fragrant steamed sponge cake (bolu kukus) and sweet jelly wrapped up a lunch filled with laughter and chatter. The visit of fifty children from PIA St. Paul Miki Parish Salatiga thus came to an end. May the knowledge gained today inspire the children to cherish and care for nature even more.
